Does that mean the Google Drive app will be lost as well? That means I would lose all my backups that I have uploaded there for years, family photos and other important files. Am I understanding correctly what Google is doing here?

Google Drive has your files in the cloud so the app will not affect it.

What do you mean that Google is killing apps?

I don't know James but Google says they will be killing the Chrome apps and since Google drive is one of those apps I can only assume it will be killed as well. All I know is I will be downloading a lot of files I have had stored on the cloud with Google to an external hard drive or maybe just drop them into a USB Flash drive. I can't afford to take any chances with those files as they can not be replaced.

Google Drive is a desktop app.. I wouldn't think that this would be affected. I will look into this further.

Google Drive is safe, as are web apps based from a website. Google is gradually removing APPS that you download to your phones and tablets. Things like that.

    Updates:
    • Google Drive will stay the same
    • You will still have cloud-based storage
    • You WON'T be able to auto sync anymore between your Google Drive APP and Google Drive web, after Mat 12, 2020 unless you download and install Backup and Sync from Google. here: is more info: https://www.techradar.com/news/goog...the-google-drive-desktop-app-heres-what-to-do
    • If you don't sync between your desktop or laptop automatically, you don't need to install the software.
