im getting a program compatibility assitant pop up saying the publisher is roxio, inc. however roxio and sonic is no longer installed in the pc, not even in the registry, it is completely wiped from the pc. i have disabled the program compatibility assitant in services.msc yet its still coming up. ive tried in safe mode and normal mode to disable it, but everytime i start up the pc its there again. i googled and many ppl have had this problem with roxio/sonic, alot of them suggested gpedit.msc but i guess vista home edition does not allow this... what else can i do to disable this issue.

Please click here to download and install version 2.0.2 of the HijackThis Installer.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

    Do not fix anything

When are you getting the pop-up? At startup? When trying to open a particular application?

    Please download and run Autoruns.

    Click on File.

    Click on Save…

Save the new AutoRuns Data (*.arn) file to your desktop.

    Close the Autoruns program.

Right-click on the new desktop AutoRuns .arn file.

Select Send To > Compressed (zipped) Folder.

Attach the compressed file to your next post.

    Yes, perfectly! :)

Unfortunately, I cannot find any traces of Roxio or Sonic which could be responsible for those prompts.

Open services.msc again and double-click on that Compatibility Assistant service. Under the General tab, please tell me what is the Service name.

Hit the Windows key + R to open a Run box. Type in regedit

    Go to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PcaSvc

In the right-hand pane, look at the DWORD Start.

The last number at the end of the entry will be either:

    (0) for Boot.

    (1) for System.

    (2) for Automatic.

    (3) for Manual.

    (4) for Disabled.

If you want to change the value, double-click on Start and change the number accordingly.

Looking at your AutoRuns .arn file, I had overlooked a driver for Sonic Solutions.

    Run Autoruns again.

    Select the Drivers tab.

Uncheck Cdralw2k CDRAL Place Holder Driver (see PxHelp) Sonic Solutions c:\windows\system32\drivers\cdralw2k.sys

Reboot your computer to see if you're still getting the prompt.
