Hi all,
I am just wondering if I should be concerned by this. On Friday and Saturday last week, I turned on my desktop and a grinding noise (much less severe than this: ) happened as i turned on my PC. It stopped after 10 secs roughly and hasn't happened since. Now, if it is the HD and it does fail, I have nothing really special stored on it so I am not particularly bothered. I cleaned the desktop as I thought it could be a fan on Saturday and this noise has not happened again since.
Is it more likely to be a fan and dedusting solved it? Or does the HD give warnings days / months / years prior it failing. It is a year-old PC so I am concerned at why it is already failing. I am hoping it is more a fan problem as I have several in the case. Could not see any wires that could potentially have caused the grinding noise.
Other than that, I have heard that the HD clicks if it is gonna fail as well as grinding but I have heard no clicks and the grinding stops literally 10secs after booting up.
Am I paranoid or should be preparing for the HD to fail imminently?
Thanks for your help!
Matt
