Half-life installshield problem!!

    dear people,
    i just built my new pc (it kicks ***:p ) but a few of my games have stopped working, the main game i want to play is half-life...... i go to the auto-play and it loads but then stops and a box comes up and says..... "installshield has encountered a problem and needs to close blah blah blah" then dont send..

    can anyone gimme any advice on how i might go about solving this problem (ive already tried the compatibility thing) you can email me at

    It sounds like a Windows error itself, not the game, did you reformat after you built your new computer?

    And are we talking Half-Life or Half-Life 2

    yeh i did format the hard drive and we are talking about half-life 1...... most games worked before i got the internet.

    Did you use an old Windows XP or a new Windows XP when you reformatted?

    You could also try turning off your firewall (if you have one) and then try installing it

    i have windows xp home edition sp2 and ill try the firewall thing;)

    You should try uninstalling Steam andHalflive and Reinstall.I had An installshield issue like that. Upon the reinstall it even let me put on DirectX9c. It's a new HL1 disc.
