Handycam and VLC problem

    I took some videos on my Handycam and I removed the dvd and put it on a laptop and extracted the videos. But when I go to edit them on Windows Movie Maker, the video is not showing how it needs to. On VLC Media Player, it says 24 seconds but it's acting weird because it's actually much longer. As the videos have been taken from a Handycam, they have been taken at different times but are a part of the same video. How do I rectify this?

    Did the (Sony) Handycam come with software for working with video?

    Many tools have trouble with sources such as this, especially taken as you have stated (ie: multiple different times). In the example above, VLC is likely only seeing the first recording.
