    hey all,

i have a problem with my pc! i have tried all that i know 2 correct the problem, bar reformatting the drive, as there is data on there that i would like to save. once i turn on my computer, it seems to boot as normal, but then goes into the blue screen of death!!!! At first i thought this was a ram problem, so did the ram test, and also tried different ram from a different computer, but no luck. So, i removed my 200gb SATA HDD, and replaced it with an 80gb IDE drive, and still no luck. i am realy stuck with this, and am in desperate need to fix this problem!!!

So if anybody knows anything that could help me, i would be very greatfull.

    many thanks

Does the blue screen say anything?
Did you make any changes to your system before this happened?
Did you reinstall Windows on the IDE drive or did it already have Windows on it?
    Using Windows XP?
    Same blue screen both times?
Can you boot up in Safe Mode?

i am using windows xp sp2, exactly the same message appears when i try to boot in safe mode! windows was already on the IDE drive when i tried to install it, and the disk is working, as it is from another fully working desktop. The blue screen is the classic blue screen of death, and states memory issues, also states something like there is an invalid boot sector address. i made no changes to the system before this happened, but did make the necessary changes to install the IDE drive.

    many thanks

    error message stated:

    UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

    tech support code: ***stop: 0x000000ed (0x81f39b80, 0xc0000032, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

general word processing before system failure, next system boot, the system blue screened with the error above, now system has recognized the hard disk, but still blue screens with error above. i have reloaded optimized defaults for bios, and have reconfigured to accept SATA drives.

Start with chkdsk /r from the Recovery Console. Do you have an XP CD?
