My WD Caviar WD2500JS has started making weird noises. When I power-up the PC, the drive starts making high-pitched clicks and ticks, at one point when Windows booted, the drive wasn't visible in Explorer. However, now it's still working normaly. It makes those ticks and clicks while powering on but continues to work. It's about 2.5 years old and I'm pretty sure it's dying..
Now, I have about 5 months left on my warranty, how can I speed up the dying process? What's the most intensive operation for a drive? Writing, reading?
I'm asking because the place where I bought it from is not too customer friendly and I could have a lot of hassle with them for my warranty, if the drive isn't completely dead.
