    Hello ~~

I'm having trouble formatting a hard drive. At the FDISK screen I went through the steps of deleting the partition and creating a new one. Then, as instructed, I shut down and restarted. I had no C:/> as I was expecting - just the blinky cursor. So I rebooted with a Startup disk, which in turn got me to the C:/> I wanted. From there I typed "FORMAT C: /s" and the following error was returned:

"Invalid media type reading drive c:"

Uh oh! So I thought I'd start over with the FDISK and when I typed that at the C:/> prompt the same error was returned.

Any thoughts? This is an old computer I was trying to reload Windows on. Thanks for any advice!!

    Hi Jody,

When you booted to the startup disk you should have gotten an A:\ prompt instead of a C:\ prompt. Check your setup and make sure your boot sequence is set to include the A drive.
You are getting error messages from the C:\ prompt because it hasn't been formatted yet and there are no format utilities on it either. You need to run everything from the startup disk. A:\

OH! Yes....it did go directly to the A:/> prompt and I typed in "C:" to get the C prompt. In other words, I need to type in the following at the A:/> prompt:

    format c: /s

Am I on the right track? THANKS!!

When you get to c: prompt.
