Are you using the Seagate as the slave or master? Liz

When you set is as the master, you can either set it that way or as cable select. On the top of the hard drive is a diagram that will show you how to set the Seagate. Did you follow that diagram and are the pins in there as solid as you can get them? Also, make sure that the colors of the connectors are the same direction. Liz

Okay, do you have another computer in the house to check this hard drive on? Liz

First off, do you know the make an model of your motherboard?

If its a p2, it seems to me the either the bios or motherboard are just too old to recognise a 20g drive.

use this program to find out what make and model the motherboard is. Once you have done that, go to the manufactureres website, or if they dont exsist anymore search google, and see if there is a newer bios version (you can find out the current bios version using that program). If there is a newer version, it might support large hard drives.

A mb of that era most likely will not support CS or at least it may be unreliable. I would use master / slave as appropriate. MB from that era are generally limited to 8.4 gig unless a bios update is available for you or a drive overlay is used.

When you say it is not recognized, do you mean the bios does not see the drive?
