I have just fitted a spare 500GB WD hard to my desktop to use as a data drive , checked it out with WD tool and cleaned it with same tool , now it will not show up in the directory , it does show up in the WD tool and in device manager , so I am stumped as to why it does not show up in file explorer , window 10 x64 system .

Does the drive show up in Disk Management? Press [Winkey][R], type in diskmgmt.msc and press [Enter]. If you see it there, you can now use it to partition, format and assign a drive letter. Once you've done this it should show up in Windows Explorer ([Winkey][E]).

Note: If the drive already has stuff on it that you do not want destroyed, do NOT re-partition or (re)format anything. Simply right-click the partition and assign a drive letter to it so that Windows Explorer can access it.
