Hey all, I have a 4yr Inspiron 1420 that is dying on me. I was trying to backup my files to my external hard drive but the computer freezes during the transfer and sometimes it actually gives me the blue screen of death.

The internet is great and fast and my Mcafee virus scan says the computer is virus free, although a full scan will also freeze the computer on certain files. I originally thought it was a virus but the only problems are usually with files from the same folder (like say a picture album or one of my work project folders).

Can anything be done to succesfully backup my photos/documents and is it worth to reinstall Windows or do I basically have a dying hard drive that i shouldnt bother replacing if I'm buying a new laptop?

Thanks for your help!

Try scanning just the problem folders, but it does sound like iffy files that you DON'T want to copy!
