hard drive problem

im trying to instaal a hard drive the problem is when i bootup from a windows start disk and when it boots up cmos dont find the harddrive so when i try to run fdisk i get the error no drive present i have checked the cable is connected properly as well as the jumper any help please thanks

What harddrive, a bit about the computer you're installing it in, and do you have any other drive on the same IDE cable?

its a no name computer pentium 2 333mhz i have a cdrom on the ide cable but i also tried the hard drive
I still have no idea what harddrive you are attempting to install.

sorry about that its a western digital 40gb i trie using there lifegaurd program but my computer aint finding the hard drive so that didnt work
