I have a Dell Vostro 1500 notebook computer running Windows XP. Approximately a month ago it started doing tasks VERY slowly, even though Task Manager showed very little memory being used and the CPU usage almost nil. Eventually I noticed my hard drive light was regularly lighting up even when I was not actively using any programs, and that when the light was on, even the keyboard was very slow to operate. This condition continues and every program is affected.

HELP! I am tempted to throw my computer through my 12th floor window.
