Hi. I have a little bit older Gateway PC running windows XP Pro. A friend of mine just gave me a Dell tower (without a hard drive). It's used but it's better than the one I've got. My question is can I simply remove my hard drive from the gateway and swap it into the dell without having to back up and reformat? Or, I also have another hard drive that I could put into the Dell and do a fresh install on. In that case could I put in the hard drive from the gateway into the Dell as a slave without having to backup and reinstall. And can you also tell me the steps to adding a second hard drive please.

Possible but not recommended. Start over with the new HD and OS install.

Yes and you will have access to all your DATA, but programs will not work.

Do note with most Dells set your HDs to CS (cable select) if Master/Slave does not work.
