Hi everyone,

I have windows XP home sp1 on a Gateway PC. One day windows would not startup all. It hangs on the windows xp startup page and does nothing. I tried using the recovery console from the XP Home cd and everytthing works fine until it stops at examining the harddrive. I also tried going into safe mode and the last known good configuration. Nothing seems to work. I even put the harddrive on another pc to tried and access the files. But I could not see the drive letter listed, but in the device manager list it was installed okay.

I next step is either to reformat the drive and start over or just buy another one. Does anyone have any suggestions before I give up and start over?

Thanks
Jim

You also might try a program called Testdisk - which will recover lost partitions etc.
