Best option is this . Run the installation CD that came with the printer before you connect up the printer to the PC . Only connect the printer when instructed on screen .

Plan B will instal the drivers and therefore the printer but not the diagnostic and other software that usually comes with a printer . Go to Control Panel/Printers and Faxes and select Add a Printer . This will launch an installation wizard for the printer . Follow the instructions , etc .

Does the printer connect via USB or a Parallel port? If it is a parallel port then you will need to reboot for it to be recognized.

Thanks all. Success. The key was to install mp4x0tMPSxpsp2, turnoff firewall and proceed using installation cd. multipass printer installed without further problem. thanks again to all concerned.
