    Hello,

I'm trying to view an .hbox file from a surveillance camera but not sure how to open it to view it. Is there a way to covert it to an avi file?

    Thank you for any help!

A lot of surveillance systems will have their own proprietary formats, and will require a player to show them properly. Do you know the name of the manufacturer of the camera? Oftentimes that's how I track down players for legal discovery purposes, by going to the manufacturer's site.

Also, if you look on the software disk that came with the hardware (assuming you installed this, of course), you may find a player. When I set mine up that was what I used, and can remote to it from my phone easily. Problem is I can't play it in any other player, only that one.

The issue is my car was stolen and they have it on surveillance camera. They gave me a copy of the file on a thumb drive, but I can't view it for myself.

From experience, players are oftentimes offered as an export by bespoke software systems, and "they" may have forgotten to include it. I would suggest you contact them again and ask for a copy of the player. This is a lot easier than tracking down the original manufacturer.
