HDD is 'not initialized'

    It won't erase the drive, but it may not even detect the drive to flash either, in most cases with the firmware issue there was a custom(unsupported Seagate) method of reviving the drive that required building a custom cable/device and using Hyperterminal. Give it a go.

    You can also contact i365 for data recovery options; http://www.i365.com/
    They are a Seagate compnay and I have used them to revive these failed drives for free, but they were bare OEM/retail drives and not from enclosures or big OEM system builders. You may have to contact Medion for support/warranty approval.
