i have a hard drive, and the other day when i was looking at the SMART data for my hard drives (because one is getting bad sectors) i noticed one of my 500gb's the newest had some really big numbers. less than 1 year old and it says that it has over 4-MILLION raw read error rates, in contrast my 1.5 year old 500bg has none. and it says that its temperature from 100 is also about 4 million. i have never had any problems with this drive, and never had any data lost. should i be concerned, its still under warranty. the brand is MAXTOR, all of my others are WD and except for the one with the bad sectors none of them have any problems. i will have the SMART info posted later.

Once bad sectors appear, it is usually a short time before the entire drive fails.

    Try some other tests.

    Free Hard Drive Testing Applications:

    Manufacturer's Tests
    Victoria for DOS
Victoria for Windows (Both versions of Victoria are among the best and most thorough tests available.)
    HD Tune
CheckDisk 1.03 (Marks bad sectors as unusable.)
HDAT2 (Diagnostics and bad sector recovery)
    MHDD Low-level Diagnostics
Bootable Hitachi Drive Fitness Test Floppy or CD Image (works on most drives)
