Im building my own PC, if I move my HDD from my old pc to my brand new motherboard, would it recognize my operating system on my HDD on the first boot?

You never mentioned which operating system is installed on the HDD from your old PC.

A few things to note:

If it's an OEM computer (ie: Dell, HP, etc.), then the Windows lic is tied to the original motherboard. You will need a new version of Windows (or a new key).

The preferred method is to perform a fresh install of Windows. Assuming the new computer is a completely different motherboard and other associated hardware, IF you can get drivers loaded and get it to run, the HDD will be littered with unused files and the registry bloated with unused entries. Best to just start fresh, reduce the clutter, and eliminate the possibility of leftover clutter causing performance or stability issues.

There is a sticky about this subject here: https://forums.techguy.org/threads/...-motherboards-without-a-clean-install.831811/
