 yep, that's about it .... SOUND is not working
I can hear sound if I use headphones... but when I unplug the headphones, I get nothing from the speakers.

This is a Dell Inspiron Laptop E1505 running Windows XP/55G HD/ 1G RAM

Sigma Tel audio - I ran "Driver Detective" driver-scan software, and it says that my sound drivers are up to date.

    I've scanned for viruses

I've scanned for spyware w/three different pieces of software (spybot, malware-bytes, adaware08).. all are current

Any suggestions are welcome!!! This is a client's computer and I've already had it several days.... I need it to move!

What am I missing? ( and yes, the volume is up and it is not muted.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried plugging the headphones directly into the sound card instead of through the speakers? If you hear sound that way, then the speakers are at fault.

No problem Sir...and thanks for trying..

I'll be keeping my nose to the grindstone for another day or so....
until she demands her computer to be returned.
At least I fixed the primary issues, and she's getting it back in tip top shape,
just in time for her overseas trip.... sigh ... except for sound :(

I'll be around with this problem for about another 24- 48 hours... so if you think of anything...
PLEASE.... share it. Signing off for tonite, but will return mid-day tomorrow i think ...
    maybe earlier...
    thanks to ALL for trying

My only guesses at this point are that either the speaker is shot, or
the cable connecting to the speaker is bad.
Will try opening tomorrow. Grrrrr I hate opening laptops.... we'll see what i find, and I'll let you know....
