Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.4
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P9600 @ 2.53GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10
    Processor Count: 2
    RAM: 3992 Mb
Graphics Card: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family, 1772 Mb
    Hard Drives: C: 221 GB (130 GB Free); Q: 10 GB (3 GB Free);
    Motherboard: LENOVO, 2801CTO
Antivirus: Microsoft Security Essentials, Enabled and Updated

My Lenovo t400s laptop is running really slow, so I went to the Lenovo site and had them scan my computer to see what updates it needed, hoping to speed it up a bit. All the updates were successful until it got to the bios one. It still is updating after 3 plus hours. So i went online to see how long these updates usually take, and come to find out it should have only taken a couple minutes.
Now, the update is still running and I don't know what to do. Should I turn it off? I read that if I do it might mess up my computer. I don't really understand the things the online articles said to do, and I really don't trust any other website but yours, including Lenovo, which got me into this mess!! (That isn't just flattery, it's the truth, but if it helps me get an answer quicker, go ahead and take it as flattery! ;)
PLEASE advise as soon as possible, I'm using all my data minutes...

Oops, update to this post... So after I posted this question, I clicked on the bios update picture on the task bar to see how it was progressing, and embarrassingly, I still needed to click 'continue' for it to start. (Good news, bad news type thing.) Wish I could erase this whole post to save face, but since I can't, maybe you could advise me as to when, if ever, I should do a bios update!
Also, the whole reason I went on the Lenovo website was to see if driver support was still active in case I decided to reinstall Windows, in the hopes it would speed up my computer. Perhaps you could give me some tips on reinstalling Windows? Or should I just be happy I haven't totally screwed my laptop up, and leave it alone...?

You appear to have a Lenovo ThinkPad T400s laptop which originally came with one of these Windows operating systems:

    Capture.JPG

You were very fortunate that you didn't turn your laptop into an expensive heavy doorstop by having a failed BIOS update.
The BIOS should never be updated unless it addresses and fixes one or more problems with the computer.

If your laptop was running real slow, you should've come here first.
There are several reasons why a computer runs slow, and in many cases we can resolve it here.

What's the exact serial number on your laptop?
What's the exact Windows version on its Certificate-Of-Authenticity sticker?

Believe me, I have never been happier to be lame then when I saw I forgot to hit that ‘continue’ button!

It is running Windows 7 Professional. I am not sure, but I think it came installed. The person I got it from, about 4 years ago, did not have an installation disk. She said I wouldn’t need one, that I could reinstall Windows from the hard drive somehow.
Where can I look for the exact version and serial number?

Right-click on "Computer", then click "Properties" in the menu.
When the system properties window appears, look at the "Windows edition" and "System" sections.
    Does it look like this?

    --------------------------------------------------------------

The serial number and Windows version will be on labels on the bottom of the laptop's case or inside its battery compartment.

According to that serial number, you have a Lenovo ThinkPad T400s laptop (machine type 2801 - custom to order) which was purchased in November 2009 in the U.S.A and which appears to have come with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
The Service Pack 1(SP1) upgrade for all versions of Windows 7 was released in March 2011, so it should've been installed in your laptop about 5-1/2 years ago.

There can be several reasons why your laptop is running slow, such as:
    Not enough RAM
Too many programs running in the background
An infestation of malware, spyware, etc.

A reinstall of Windows 7 and a fresh start is usually the best option for breathing new life into a computer, but unfortunately most people don't know how or are unwilling to do it.
It's a time-consuming job and requires a decent amount of computer knowledge.

I'm having second thoughts. Maybe if I had more knowledge of computers, or a book that could guide me through it in case something went wrong.
Thank you for enlightening me on this, I think I'll just be happy with what I have.

Do the following in your laptop in the order that they're listed here.

Go here, then click the "Download Now @ Bleeping Computer" button to download and save AdwCleaner.exe to your desktop.
If you get a warning that this file is unsafe, ignore the warning.
Close all open windows first, then double-click AdwCleaner.exe to load its main window.
Click the "Scan" button, then allow the scanning process to finish.
Several seconds may pass before the scanning process starts and completes, so be patient.
If any threats are detected, the number of them will appear in red.
Click the "Clean" button, then click "OK".
Allow the cleaning process to finish.
When it's finished, click "OK" in each window that appears.
    The computer will restart.
When the log appears during restart, save it.
Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE log here.

Go here, then click the "Download Now @ Author's Site" button to download and save TFC.exe (Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer) to your desktop.
After it's downloaded and saved, close all open windows.
Double-click it to load its main window.
    Click the "Start" button.
If there are a large number of temp files or if there are multiple user accounts, the temp file deletion process may appear to freeze and may take a few minutes, so don't interfere with or abort it.
After it's finished, restart the computer if prompted to.
Advise how many temp files in MB's were found and removed.

It looks like AdwCleaner found and removed a large number of threats.
It looks like Temp File Cleaner By OldTimer found and removed about 5.37 GB of temp files.

Is that computer running any better?

Are you familiar with and have you every used Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware?

Yes, I believe it is. I haven't had a chance to really test it, but the little I've used it it seems to be more responsive.

    Okay, good.
Use the computer for awhile and then get back to me.

AdwCleaner and TFC helped, but we probably also need to put MBAM and SAS to use.
I'll give you detailed instructions for installing them and setting them up and using them.
