I live in one of the hostels of my university in Germany, and I was using Internet very fine with an Ethernet in my Laptop wich uses Windows Vista Home Basic as an operation system, but in the last 2 weeks my Internet keeps cutting, but the local area connection stays. I just click on Diagnose and Repair, an error message shows up: '' cannot communicate with primary DNS server network (139.174.192.249), diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not recieve a response''. Now when I click on the one option I have wich is: '' Reset the network adapter 'Local Area Connection' .The Internet comes back but only for 2-5 minutes and then I have to do the same thing. I was doing this for the last 2 weeks.

I went to my network administrator and he said that the problem is from my laptop. So I took my laptop to a technical, and he said that my laptop is fine. Now I tried every thing but no solution. I have seen a thread here in the website someone having like my problem: http://forums.techguy.org/networking/697922-solved-cannot-communicate-primary-dns.html

I tried to do the same, but nothing.
I tried every thing I have seen in the Internet, without any benefit.

    Please help me !!
I'm not so good in computer stuff.

    what should I do ??!!!

    Help !

Make sure you have the latest driver for the ethernet adapter from your PC manufacturer's web site. Use Device Manager to uninstall the adapter; restart and reinstall it.

Try switching cables with somebody else to see if the problem goes with the cable or stays with your computer. Better yet, if the cable is fairly old try a new one.

Try Safe Mode with Networking to see if you still get the problem.

While in Device Manager see if you can uninstall the 6TO4 adapter, which sometimes causes problems.

I have tried to work with the Safe Mode, but the problem still exists.

I have installed the last update for my Ethernet Adapter.

    No benefits.

    What should I do !?!?

From the tests and updates you've done it sounds like the ethernet adapter is failing. But if that technical who said your laptop is fine actually did any testing the problem has to be with your ISP or the modem. Does the modem have any LEDs that indicate the status of the connection? Can you try your laptop on somebody else's modem or router connection? Or have somebody else try their computer on your connection?

Remember to power cycle (unplug) the modem when switching computers.

Well I have taken my laptop to my friend's room, and the Internet worked perfectly.

But when I came back to my room, the problem came. And by the way, the modem hasn't any LEDs.

    Thanks again.

I don't see what it could be other than an ISP or modem problem.

    Thanks a lot.

    The problem was resolved.

The problem was in the Internet Port in the main Adapter in the Hostel.

    Thanx again Terry.

You're welcome. Glad you're OK now. The "nternet Port in the main Adapter in the Hostel" is essentially the ISP from your perspective. :)

You may mark this 'Solved' using the THread Tools at the upper right.
