HELP! Can't access my network connections in my network folder!!

Guys, i have a problem with my network folder.

It seems that I can't see my existing network connections in the folder! I first noticed this when i click on my dial-up

connection the connection window won't come up.

When i open the network connections folder in the control panel, an error message comes up with this message:

The Network Connections Folder was unable
to retrieve the lsit of Network adapters
on your machine. Please make sure that the
Network Connections service is enabled and
    running.

I tried going to the Services Tool and manually started Network Connections but this is the message I got:

Could not start the Network Connections service on Local Computer.
Error 127: The specified procedure could not be found.

What gives? Please help me guys. I'm really at lost on what to do this time. I even tried starting all services but i only

got the same error message in the Network Connections service.

    Thanks.

This just happened less than two hours ago, and no new programs were installed. As far as i can remember my PC sometimes halts system loading when it is about time to display the welcome screen, and i think i remember restarting it twice before the problem came. i ran an extensive checkdisk routine on my 2 hard disks but there was no error in the files nor in the drives. :-(

Any major errors in your event viewer? Especially around the time you did your startup?

You have WAY too many things starting and running there -- but that's a different issue.

What preceeded this problem? Did you make any configuration changes to services? Did you do a System Restore or a reinstall?

Have you installed any Windows Updates recently? Is this Windows update in Add/Remove programs: KB893066 (see this thread: http://www.howtofixcomputers.com/bb/ftopic148406.html)

Check the integrity and starting mode of the Remote Access Connection manager service.

Also, try resetting your Winsock protocol stack:

Yes, i'm running P4 3.0GHz on a 500GB hard drive and a 1GB memory. anyway I have installed a Windows upgrade prior to this problem and i am sure that caused it. nonetheless, i reverted my system back to its clean state by reinstalling the OS, and everything just worked fine. thank you guys for pointing this out to me. From now on, i will never fully trust a windows update again. :)
