    Hi all!!

Just wondering if anyone had some suggestions on a good piece of tracking software that can do Help Desk stuff, asset inventory (eg. Hardware tracking) etc....

Someone suggested "Unicenter Service Desk".....just wondering if there is anything else out there.....

    Thanks....

I would think a good application setup in either Access or Excel could also do the trick. ;)

I think there are some sample files (templates) in Access for inventory tracking. Maybe you could check those out. OBP and other Access experts could help you out quite a bit there. If in Excel, you'd be building it basically from scratch. I would assume you wanted Access, but I know some who would just opt for Excel - even if one is easier than the other.

I think the other question needs to be, what is the scope of the application? Where will it be used? Over a network? Different departments? Updated? Held on a server? Etc, etc..

Thanks for the reply. I think Access wouldn't be able to handle what we want. Bascially, we want a software, where a user can create a helpdesk ticket and the incident be sent to the IT staff. As well, we want to be able to track what hardware/software we have for each user/department. We have all leased Dell PC's, and it would be nice to be able to have the software record when the lease is up.(but that is not really a main issue right now)
To answer your questions, Yes, the software would be used over the network and yes, it would be installed on the server.

rock_o, of course Access can do what you want, I have already helped design an IT asset tracking database. Access can even automatically email the IT staff for you as well as creating the helpdesk ticket.
