Which model number in this list is your all-in-one printer?

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

The printer will not work with only the black 74 cartridge installed. The tri-color 75 cartridge has to be there also.

A cartridge doesn't get damaged while it's inside a printer. It can only get damaged by improperly handling it while unpackaging it and installing it.

If the tri-color 75 cartridge is damaged, then you need to replace it.

    You're welcome. :)

Here is the support and software site for the HP Photosmart C4240 All-In-One printer. I suggest that you save this site in your browser favorites list so you can refer to it when you need to.

Here is the section on replacing ink cartridges.
