Starting yesterday about noon my computer started just miraculously shutting down with no warning. I would be in the middle of something and BAM I would get the reboot screen and it would start up windows again. Each and everytime that it starts over the Windows installer comes up and says that Norton's can not repair itself and needs to be uninstalled and reinstalled. I also get a windows send error report and it takes me to a device driver error page in windows help. We just got this computer 4 days ago and had a new video card installed. Come to find out the store that I got the computer from did not remove the old video card drivers. At this point in time I was walked through the removal of the ATI Raedon drivers and making sure that the NVIDIA GeForce 6600 ST card and drivers were installed properly and that seemed to work for a little while. Then my msn messenger stopped working all together. It would not let me sign in sign out, nothing. I uninstalled it and re-installed it and it worked, finally after about pulling my hair and the person's that I was talking with. I ran SpySweeper and it found 30 spyware programs and 51 traces. I quarantined them and ran it again and it came out with nothing found. When I woke this morning, my roomate said that the computer restarted on her and came up with the computer had recovered a serious error. And low and behold it was the same error that I kept getting yesterday. Spysweeper starts up and gives me this alert window saying that it had detected a new program was installed named "KernalFaultCheck" and gave me the option to remove it or keep it. I have yuet to do anything with it for I fear that something majorly wrong is going on with this machine. Enclosed is a copy of the hijack this log that I ran a little bit ago. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated due to my computer rebooting itself a total of 6 times in the last 24 hours for reasons that i am not aware of. Thank you in advance for you help in my time of need.

As far as I know, this is a trojan. However, I am not an expert on HijackThis, please wait for an expert to have a look at your log. It may take some time, please be patient.

The other post is correct and here's why you have a problem

BearShare.exe - P2P will always get u in trouble

Add remove programs - remove if present Bear SHare -

Fix this in HiJack

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ShowWnd] ShowWnd.exe

Then do the following

Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
· Install ewido.
· During the installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
· Launch ewido
· It will prompt you to update click the OK button and it will go to the main screen
· On the left side of the main screen click update
· Click on Start and let it update.
· DO NOT run a scan yet. You will do that later in safe mode.

Restart your computer into safe mode now. Perform the following steps in safe mode:

Run Ewido:
· Click on scanner
· Put a check by the following before you scan:
o Binder
o Crypter
o Archives
· Click the Start Scan button to start the scan.
· During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
· When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
· Save the report to your desktop

Post that log and the resulting HiJack log from normal mode

Okay I did the enwido scan and everything that i was told to do. I am still getting SpySweeper coming up in the start up of my computer saying that it picked up the same KernelFaultCheck and my windows installer is coming up trying to install. A window pops up that shays the same thing about Norton's in my first post.

Following is the updated hijack this and enwido file

Forget about restore points for now

kernelfaultcheck

you can disable these by - right clicking on My Computer, selecting Properties and then the Advanced tab. Click on the Settings button in 'Startup and Recovery'. In the bottom pane - under 'Write debugging information' - click on the down arrow and then select 'None' - OK your way out

Start/Run/SFC.exe /SCANNOW

You'll need your Windows CD - It will replace your system files with fresh ones off of the CD.

Please explain what you have with regard to McAfee and Norton - did you have Mcaffe and then switched to Norton?

When I bought the computer it has McAfee Spyware remover on it and the rest was Nortons. I know that sometimes these two programs do not work well together. That is where those come into play. Am about to start what you last suggested. Thanks a lot again for your help in this problem

After I ran the scan nothing happened. Did I do something wrong? It has been 10 minutes since the scan stopped
