Help I can't figure out how to reformat my harddrive

    Can someone please tell me how to completely reformat my hard drive and start over with windows xp. I have tried the recovery console I have tried deleting partitions nothing works I can't get to any dos prompt to format the drive I am really frustrated

    You should be able to achieve that by booting from your Windows XP CD.

    You may need to go into the BIOS to set the PC to boot from the CD before it boots from the HDD. Under "boot" options in the BIOS. The instructions to get into the BIOS setup should briefly display at boot time.

    Yep, during the installation with the cd you will be given the choice to install in the current partition . Here is where you should select to delete the partition then let xp create a new one as well as format it with ntfs for you.By doing so you will erase all data currently on the drive.

    Gemdiva:If your PC came with recovery disks and not an XP cd,running the recovery disks will reformat and and put your pc back to factory ship condition.Mine did not come with an xp disk so recovery disks worked great for me.
