A friend downloaded Warez while i was on holiday. He later removed it, but it seemed to leave something behing. There was a search toolbar 'SearchtheWeb' and another similar double bar at the bottom of the screen. Having done some research I tried to eliminate them. But I haven't succeeded. I have hidden the top toolbar and the other one only appears on open IE and I can close it, but I want rid of them and any associated garbage.

Here is my HijackThis logfile. I would greatly appreciate if someone could check it and tell me what I need to remove.

    Logfile of HijackThis v1.97.7

Warez is one of the best places to catch whatever. Your HiJack file has several suspicious references. First, download McAfee stinger.exe and run it to take out about 50 of the latest viuses and trojans. While you're at the McAfee site take advantage of the free scan. Second download Ad-Aware 1.05 and run that. Download Spybot and run that. If that doesn't take care of things send another HiJack file.

It's a LOP hijack and toolbar adaware has fixed some of it but it always leaves some behind
if you don't delete the entire folders with the malware the hidden reinstaller puts it back on again

Run hijackthis, tick these entries listed below and ONLY these entries, double check to make sure, then make sure all browser & email windows are closed and press fix checked

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [programsend] C:\PROGRA~1\INTERB~1\meet blah.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Flaw test seek upload] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\exit web flaw test\Axis trans.exe

Reboot into safe mode by following instructions here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406
then as some of the files or folders you need to delete may be hidden do this:
Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
    Click "Apply" then "OK"

    and Delete these folders

    C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERB~1\<<<<the folder containing>>>>>meet blah.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\exit web flaw test

then go to C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME\Local Settings\Temp and select everything in that folder and delete it (repeat for every user name/account )

and select EVERYTHING in C:\windows\temp except temporary internet files, cookies and history folders and delete all that as well and everything in C:\temp

    1) Open Control Panel
    2) Click on Internet Options
    3) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
    4) You may also want to check the box "Delete all offline content"
    5) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the temporary internet files
    6) You can now click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that websites have placed on your hard drive

    then
    Reboot normally &

Download and unzip or install these programs/applications if you haven't already got them. If you have them, then make sure they are updated and configured as described

    Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de
    AdAware SE from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download

and while you are at the adaware site download and install http://www.lavasoft.de/software/addons/vx2cleaner.shtml

and run it before the main adaware scan and follow it's directions

    Run Sybot S&D

After installing, first press Online, press search for updates, then tick the updates it finds, then press download updates. Beside the download button is a little down pointed arrow, select one of the servers listed. If it doesn't work or you get an error message then try a different server

Next, close all Internet Explorer and OE windows, press 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds that is marked in RED.

    then reboot &

    Run ADAWARE

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate".
the current ref file should read at least SE1R8 13.09.2004 or a higher number/later date
    Then ........
click the "Scan" button. and select full scan

When scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu) then press next and then say yes to the prompt, do you want to remove all these entries. You can safely ignore any MRU entries though and not delete them

    reboot again

then post a new hijackthis log to check what is left

I removed the offending things, as recommended, via hijack this.
I had already deleted meet blah.exe and the interburn folder(i hope this was ok)

I already had ad aware SE prof and spybot SD, which i had been running for a couple of days.

Here is the latest Hijack this logfile. Perhaps you can review it and tell me if I need to do anything else.

I will certainly check the hedgehog site and make a contribution. It is worth it to have my computer at least someway back to normal.

I did all that you said yesterday. I thought it had worked. But today when I booted up Adaware Ad-watch immediately warned about Exit Web Flaw, and Meet Blah.exe wanting to update registry. I blocked them, and then went through your process again, but couldn't find the two programs to delete in the directories/folders you mentioned(I found and deleted them yesterday)

I rebooted and Ad-watch this time only warned about Exit Web Flaw.
I have run Hijack this again and the log is below.

As an aside, I have seen a folder HYPERBAR in C:/documents and settings/All Users/Application Data, this has another folder in it {4B2F5308-2CB0-40E2-8030-59936ED5D22C}, and in there is a file is a file called config.xml , is this a problem , I have no idea what it might be.

Two items. Have you done a search over your system for Meet Blah.exe and anything containing Web Flaw? Also, Dell usually supplies a driver disk, don't you have one? If not, call Dell and ask for one.

Run hijackthis, tick these entries listed below and ONLY these entries, double check to make sure, then make sure all browser & email windows are closed and press fix checked

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\exit web flaw test

LOP has hidden reinstallers inside the folders so if you don't delete the entire folder it will all come back again

LOP normally comes bundled with some application/program. I can't see any of the usual suspects running, but if you have recently downloaded any new programs that is where you got it from and it will be set to auto download or update itself every time you start that application

The usual suspect is messenger plus from patchou, but I can't see that listed anywhere unless you just start it when using MSN messenger

go here http://forums.techguy.org/t208517/s.html for info on how to tighten your security settings and how to help prevent future attacks it contains some useful info on stopping these unwanted pests

I wonder whether you have actually deleted the folders using windows explorer or did you just delete some folders on start menu ?
