    1st timer here but I'm quite the pro @ buggering Win installs. This time I partitioned my main H/D & only left 3 gig for XP Pro. Now I have to go back & merge/repartition/format? No joke I was solvent poisoned @ work & have the short term memory of Tommy Chong, can't remember how I did it. I don't mind starting over...just need a point in the right direction. I built the original system for my daughter to take to college 3-4 yrs. ago & now my son wants to adapt it to gaming & hacking D.O.D. data bases or some such childishness (ah...kids). System is mostly oldies but goodies; ABIT IC7-MAX3 mobo, H2O cooled P4-3.2 Extreme, (4) Mushkin DDR3500 Level II 512 mb RAM, (4) W.D. Raptor 75 gig H.D. w/ coolers, ASUS Radeon 9800 XT 256 mb H2O cooled graphics, S.B. Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro sound, PC Pwr.& Cooling Tower w/ 650w psu, Highpoint 8ch. Raid PCI, new Bigfoot Killer M1 NIC, 4gig Corsair RAM coming (hope to reuse Mushkin in my system). O.C.'ing was part of orig. intent to justify expense then by extending life of the system, but never tried it. Couple of problems/questions:
    1. Does it sound like this kit will do him well if he just upgrades video
    down the road. He buys stuff like the NIC & I don't want him broke.
    2. Only using (1) stick of Mushkin now 'cuz I think it was matched pairs
    + now I can't remember which goes w/ which.Will trial + error cook 'em
    3.Seem to remember something about these drives not being true SATA,
    just emulate..., but son later wants to RAID stripe for speed. Right
    now I'm just intrstd. in getting it fired up again. Any suggestions on
    site/forum/threads that might help put lipstick on this pig.
    4. Lastly, does this set up sound OK for O.C. or should he start saving
    for a new syst. Doesn't play Crysis but online Warcraft & Call of Duty.
    He's studying programming so I get to screw up the hardware
    Just found the sugg. about slipstreamin' XP, this place is great.
    Much thanks & gratitude to those that devote their time and patience to helping knuckleheads like me.

    worknfool sounds like a fine PC do do what you are thinkin.
    you could try this little program;
    SIW.EXE tutorial
    If you can go here;
    and download SIW.EXE to desktop or my documents and run it.
    It will ask you about registering/buying just hit the cancel button and it will run just fine.
    Over in the left you can click on any thing for detailed info about it.
    it will give you superb specific info on your memory so you should be able to pair them back up.
    http://www.nascar.com/ just kidding!!!

    I would stay away from registry tweaking programs that claim to speed up your PC as they do more harm than good.

    Any recommendations on reg/twkr that does work well. I've been suckered close enough to install & scan w/ a few, averaging 3,000 errors on a fresh install?, but always back off & get rid of them for the very reason that you mention.
