On my PC I have two hard drives.

    Disc 1 containing C: and D:

    Disc 2 containing F: and G:

C: drive was running out of space so I tried to expand the partition by making D: smaller.

I used Partition Magic 8 which was installed on D:

This was unsuccessful as one of the sectors was "damaged".

I then tried to merge both C: and D: together but another error came up and the process was aborted.

I now find in My Computer that I only have C: F: and G; drives remaining. D: drive has vanished. However C: drive still only has the same amount of space as before.

I have made a back up of C: and D: using Norton Ghost which lies on G: drive.

As Partition Magic program was on D: I am unable to make a partition on the Disc 2 and to call it D: I could have then put the Ghost Image of D: onto the new partition.

Looks like I will have to install a new hard disc drive.

Can someone help me on how I can go about this?

I need to put the original C: and D: drives back onto the new hard drive.

You shouldn't need a new drive.
Go to the disk manufactures website and download the available drive utilities.
You should have the option to do a low level format which will write 0's to the drive and erase any bad sectors.

Then, depending on which operating system you are installing, you can create the partitions through XP's setup, or fdisk on lower operating systems.

EDIT: Didn't partition manager get copied when you used ghost? Can't you pull it off that drive?
