I need a piece of code that saves a customer's account number and password to a file. only that it automatically generates the account number. so the code looks into the file. reads the 5 digit account number for the last customer and adds one to it. then assigns the new number to the new customer. each record on the file is written on a seperate line.

plus if you have any kind of code that would take the password from the user but show stras '*' on the screen, and save the password, please forward it to me.

any help towards this is appriciated.

    thanks

There are different methods of handling the password character depending on the type of control you are using on your window.

One method is using the EM_SETPASSWORDCHAR message. This message is easy to use and understand, it goes something like this:

Another means is by using the Resource Editor in Visual Studio and setting the field "Password" to TRUE.
