Help needed with Windows 10 black screen with cursor

Good Morning, could I ask for some help with my son's desktop? He turned it on today and loaded ok up until login then instead of his desktop loading he has a blank screen the cursor is there and responds the bottom task bar keeps flashing as if it is refreshing every couple of seconds. I can access the task manager by pressing ctrl alt del and from there I can access most files on computer, my son can load and play his games. Any advice on how to get the desktop screen back? Thanks in advance.

He has windows 10, dual monitors running through a graphics card. HP horizontal tower.

The solution for me was to press the Windows Key + R. Then type explorer.exe and press enter

If there is no windows key then open task manager from the shortcut, click on file, click on run new task and type explorer.exe then press enter

If that doesn't work make sure to try to boot windows up in safe mode.

1. Press the Windows logo key + R.
2. Type msconfig in the Open box and then select OK.
3. Select the Boot tab.
4. Under Boot options, select the Safe boot checkbox.
5. Restart

If you want to boot normally then follow the steps above and deselect the Safe boot checkbox
