I left it on last night when I logged off, as usual and when I woke up this morning the entire PC is shut down and will NOT turn back on. I tried to unplug everything and plug back in and turn on but nothing happens. No lights no nothing.

What should I do ??

    Hi desktop or laptop.
Have you checked the fuse in the wall plug?
    I that's ok.
Turn the computer off and disconnect it from the power
Take off the side of the case and touch the bare metal chassis to discharge static.
Remove Ram..Video cards from their slots

Plug in the RAM [one stick at a time].
    Also try different slots.
    Ensure it is seated correctly.
    Reseat Video card.

Check Hard drive and Motherboard connections [IDE]
Take them off and reseat them.

Inspect the case for dust etc.
Remove the dust..do not use a vacuum cleaner

Check that the processor fan rotate. Check for dust.

Turn on and listen for a beep.

A properly working computer should beep once while booting, and the lights on the keyboard should flash while booting.

It is a desktop PC. Emachines Windows XP. I just did all the steps above and the PC itself will not even turn on. No lights no nothing. The monitor will turn on but nothing will show. The hard drive is what will not turn on AT ALL ! There is no dust anywhere and everything was unplugged, reseated.

Now what do I do? What could be the problem?

    Are all the fans working??

If no, Power Supply could well be the problem.

Power supply for sure, but the problem is when they blow in an eMachine, they almost always take the motherboard with them.

What do you mean the power supply ? Everything else that is hooked to the computer (moniter, fax, copier) is working. Nothing is working on the hard drive...fans and all. I have no idea what the "motherboard" is. I blew on the fan and blew out all the dust ... it spins properly but it just will not turn on...at all.

If is by trying or taking your unit to a shop and have yours tested. Now without knowing anything about your pc, we can't answer what you need as brand names some times have issues with some. Physically they are mostly the same size and for wattage, well there is a site we can send you to to add up your hardware and see what you would need.

Thanks....I think maybe its best if I bring it to a nearby shop and have them take a look at it just in case its something else.
Again, I do appreciate all your help..this site is the best ! I will let you know the outcome.
