My persistent cookies (ex. preference settings in Google or sign in info on Netflix..) are erased EVERY TIME I restart my computer. I have placed a number of website url's in the "allowed" section of the privacy tab (under the "sites" button..), including google and netflix, and the websites seem to be remembered as long as I don't restart the computer. I can shut down a IE8 browsing session and come back online and the cookies are still in effect, but if I shut down and restart the computer the supposedly persistent cookies are deleted. Very frustrating! I am running only Eset Nod as antivirus and Zone Alarm Pro as security right now...I have just completed a fresh install of Windows XP sp3 and I'm trying to run down this gremlin. I checked the settings on Zone Alarm Pro and they are set to allow cookies (cookie control is set to off...). Does Eset Nod have a system whereby it automatically deletes cookies on startup? Is there a setting for windows proper whereby it either deletes persistent cookies or doesn't recognize me as the same user every time I start it up? Am I totally just missing something? Any help would be appreciated. While this is not a show-stopping problem, it IS super annoying and I hate having something happening on my machine of which I am not aware and of which I currently have no control over...

    Thanks again in advance...

There was a bug in an earlier version. What version are you running?

    Dear hewee,
Thank you for the superb link article from mvps.org and it went right into my x-marks. http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/cookies.htm

CookieCuller and CookieSafe are in my Add-Ons in FF 3.5.2!

I was a strong proponent of "blocking 3rd party cookies" all along and am grateful to learn that 1st party cookies can also be blocked with the "exceptions" rule applied!(y)

Your welcome. Hey I used to deal with cookies the same way for years till someone posted just a couple years ago on a better way using the "exceptions" rule.
Once I cleared up that old cookie list that was about 9 years old so that block list was sooooooooooooooooooo very long that I had to wait and wait to see the cookies as it made up the long list.
I was so happy after I made the change but upset because it tok me so long to do what I could of done all this time.

Your be happy also once you got it all setup.

That seems to debunk my theory but do you have CCleaner running at startup? If so, set it not to run at startup either from within the program itself or via msconfig and then let me know if the same things occurs.

no, CCleaner is not set up to run at startup, either through the program or through msconfig. I'm not sure what is going on! It's very frustrating... It seems to only clear the supposedly persistent cookies on start up, so I'm thinking xp itself may be clearing the cookies, rather than IE8. I could be way off. Eset Nod does have some type of scan it runs on startup, but I can't tell if it does anything to cookies or not...

    Dear lands899,
To add a new angle, "WinPatrol" program manages cookies very well!:)

Open HijackThis and click on the Open Misc Tools section button. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button. Click the Save List button. Save the list then copy and paste it here.

here it is. I appreciate your efforts and attention. I can't figure out why it clears these cookies on start up, rather than, say, closing and reopening the browser...
