    Help needed please,
Since before December 2006 I have been unable to get my AOL 9 to run...I have only been able to use AOL8...I have re-installed new AOL 9 disks...un-installed them and still the same problem remains eg..."AOL9 will now install the files needed for you to be able to connect".
I got in touch with AOL Tech help and they told me that I was in a LOOP and gave me steps on how to deal with my problem...but,it didn't work.
I have been searching around the web and found something called "Apropos" which can be a cause of all the problems I am having...also it can cause there to be a blank window in Device Manager?....I went to my Device manager and ...yes mine is Blank too.
Do you think I have been "infected" with "Apropos"?.....I did have a period when my pc kept crashing....windows suddenly only showed "classic" colours on my desktop, all of those problems seem to be alright now though.
anyone have any help for me about this?.....
I have included my HJT log>

    Download Combofix to your desktop:

    * Double-click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    * When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Thankyou for replying to my message.
I just downloaded Combofix.exe as you said and I got this message
I have also tried to delete the said item after the message I got,and it refuses to be deteted, telling me something like I do not have permission to delete? >
The tool, ComboFix. has been temporarily withdrawn.

The author discovered a rootkit infection that will intefere with ComboFix's running.

This will cause Combofix to be UNSAFE FOR USE on your machine.

Even if you manage to find a mirror for the tool, PLEASE DO NOT RUN THIS TOOL

    Apologies for any inconvenience caused

Download WinPFind3U.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named WinPFind3u on your desktop.
    • Open the WinPFind3u folder and double-click on WinPFind3U.exe to start the program.
      • In the Processes group click All
      • In the Win32 Services group click Non-Microsoft
      • In the Driver Services group click Non-Microsoft
      • In the Registry group click Non-Microsoft
      • In the Files Created Within group click 60 days Make sure Non-Microsoft only is UNCHECKED
      • In the Files Modified Within group select 30 days Make sure Non-Microsoft only is CHECKED
      • In the File String Search group select Non-Microsoft
    • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
    • The program will be scanning huge amounts of data so depending on your system it could take a long time to complete. Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
    • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
    • Save that notepad file
Use the Reply button and attach the notepad file here . I will review it when it comes in.

I can't see anything in the wpfind log that would account for your problems

I don't think you have apropos but to double check

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

    Please download AproposFix from here:
    http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/aproposfix.exe

Save it to your desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Then please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
    1) Restart your computer
    2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
    3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
    4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click aproposfix.exe and unzip it to the desktop. Open the aproposfix folder on your desktop and run RunThis.bat. Follow the prompts.

When the tool is finished, please reboot back into normal mode, and post a new HijackThis log, along with the entire contents of the log.txt file in the aproposfix folder.

I feel your AOL problems might be related to ZA firewall so I would suggest resetting ZA to default settings & then uninstall it and see if AOL installs then and if it does reinstall ZA afterwards
