Hello! I'm just a newbie in this forum. I'm not sure if I'm at the right category but I just want to try my luck regarding my problem.

I uninstalled Avast Premier 2015 a few days ago since the firewall is not functioning properly. Upon reinstalling, there's this dialog box that's appearing every time I wanna open the set-up file. Refer to the image below.

"The installer cannot open the SFX archive code 0x3ee"

I already tried using Avast Cleaner (executed it at Safe Mode) but it's still reappearing. I was wondering if there's any problem in my Toshiba laptop 64-bit.

I tried HiJack This to scan for system problems. Hope someone can help me on this! Thanks!

    Hi nerdykidtripper,
Note at the top of this forum page:
Everyone MUST read this BEFORE posting for help in this forum
Please follow the instructions there : http://forums.techguy.org/virus-other-malware-removal/943214-everyone-must-read-before-posting.html
Post the required log from TSG SysInfo, and it will enable someone to help. Providing help may not be feasible otherwise.

Then please post all of the two files from OTL. OTL.txt and Extras.txt
    You can use
If you can't do that., (make sure you post all of each, not just the first page), then attach them to your reply.
Without the entirety of the files we cannot help.

@askey127 if you press the orange click to expand link at the bottom of the quote box, the full OTL logs magically appear

    Sorry for the delay.
We will need a different set of scans from a newer scan engine to fully analyze this machine.
We will replace that old Adobe reader later.
Meanwhile these have known security issues, so let's remove.
    ------------------------------------------------
    Remove Programs Using Control Panel
From Start, Control Panel, click on Programs and Features
Click each Entry, as follows, one by one, if it exists, choose Uninstall, and give permission to Continue:

    Java 7 Update 65
    Adobe Reader X

Take extra care in answering questions posed by any Uninstaller.
    -----------------------------------------------------------
    REBOOT (RESTART) Your Machine

I cannot recommend using any IOBit software. They have had a checkered past, to say the least.
If yours is a free version, you have also been graced with adware as payment.
    .
    -----------------------------------------------------------
Download and Run the Farbar Scan Tool
    • Download FRST64 and save to your Desktop.
    • Double click Frst64.exe to launch it.
    • FRST64 will start to run.
      • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
      • Press the Scan button.
      • When finished scanning, 2 logs will open on your Desktop, FRST.txt and Addition.txt
      • Please post them in your next reply.
If you lose track of them, they will be saved in the same location as FRST64.exe
Feel free to use separate replies if it's more convenient.

Hello! Sorry for the late response. Thanks a lot for checking on this. Will get back to you once I generated the reports using the Farbar Scan Tool. ;)

Hello guys! I'm back! I already uninstalled Adobe Reader X, Java 7 Update 65 and all my iObit softwares. After using Farbar Scan Tool, here's what I've got. Hope this well help you find the real problem as to why I cannot install Avast Premier anymore.

    For FRST.txt

    nerdykidtripper,
    ------------------------------------------------
    Remove Programs Using Control Panel
From Start, Control Panel, click on Programs and Features
Click each Entry, as follows, one by one, if it exists, choose Uninstall, and give permission to Continue:

    iolo technologies' System Mechanic Professional
    AVSDK5

Take extra care in answering questions posed by any Uninstaller.
The program named AVSDK5 (by Cyren) may not show in the installed programs.
If it doesn't show, run the Fix per the instructions below, and then see if it shows up in the Installed programs list afterward, so you can remove it.
We can remove it manually, but I would prefer not, in the interest of avoiding a lot of extra work for both of us.
Both of those programs have antivirus services and are likely preventing installation of Avast.

    -----------------------------------------------------------
    REBOOT (RESTART) Your Machine

    --------------------------------------------------------
    Run A Fix With FRST
Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Downloads folder.
NOTE. It's important that both the program FRST64.exe and Fixlist.txt be in the same location, or the fix will not work.
(Both on the Desktop is OK, or both in the same folder elsewhere)

Run FRST64 and press the FIX button just once, and wait. DO NOT PRESS THE SCAN BUTTON.
If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally.
The tool may start automatically and complete its work after the system restart. Let the tool complete its run.
When finished, FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents in your reply.
Let me know how it goes.
