    Please help!

My friend took my digital camera (Cannon SC 650) and accidentally hit the option for "low level format" on her SD card and deleted all my pictures! Is there any way I can recover them?

My friends tried using a "recovery program" with the SD card and SD card reader, but no luck. Any ideas would be very appreciated!!!

Does your Canon really do a low level format? Most cameras only do quick format. On a PC, I think XP only does a quick format on memory cards, even though there is a box to click for a full format.

With a quick format, the picture data isn't erased from memory. Only a header info telling where it was located gets erased. As long as nothing gets written into the locations, the file can be potentially recovered.

I just formatted a 256 MB SD card in both a Minolta camera and on my PC and in either case, recovery software was pulling out pictures from as far back as two years ago. I used PC Inspector Smart Recovery, version 4.5, by Convar, run using a card reader.

    Anyway, good luck.

Some Canon cameras have a low level format option in the menu. There is usually no way to recover the photos after a low level format.

You might try some recovery software, but it she actually put the card through a low level format it probably isn’t going to work.

Yes, I reallize that models like the big bucks Canon 1D MkII do a low level format, but didn't expect a 650SC could do it too, but now I see that they do, so as usual, slipes, you're right.
