Have got a laptop with windows XP which has been acting rather strange lately. Since last night the free memory space has been rapidly decreasing. I've been trying to read up about similar problems on this site and i find the tips quite helpful. Am trying to follow the step-wise solution provided by khazars.

Running an avast scan on boot showed two worms - Brontok-AA and AutoIt-CH. Both of them were deleted. Here is the HJT log file after re-booting.

Looking forward to advice on this issue. If this problem has been solved before, wd be glad to go through the links.

2 days on and the problem still remains.

As suggested in Khazar's post, I executed SDFix in safe mode, then ran Dr.Web-CureIt, uninstalled Avast, installed Avira (anti-vir) .... and nothing's changed at all. The memory size is still decreasing rapidly.

Here's the HJT log after the Dr.Web-CureIt scan.

Ok. The deal is that there were a few worms that each of the s/w found and were subsequently quarantined. But my worry is that now Explorer says that there is NO FREE DISK SPACE (zero MB free disk space!!!). I disabled restore points and bought myself some 1.1 GB ... but now i've run out of even that grace.

Now on start-up, most of the applications that need to save logs/reports are reporting ugly errors. I can't install any new antivirus since there's no space to load them on. To save any new log file, i'm using a 1 GB pen drive.

Expert advice urgently needed to bail out my silly comp. Is there any way to get fix this thing back to normalcy?? Has the **** hit the fan?

    HELP!

The latest update is i've run Ad-Aware scans - Smart and Complete - on my system and all i get are tracking cookies. No virus have been found by the scans but the problem still remains.

If you've understood my problem and feel you could fix this issue, please do let me know.

I know this isn't going to win me brownie points but I really am clueless on how to deal with this.

    Therefore...
