"Hi" I just recently bought a pc for a very low price. I'm fully aware of it having the worst processor ever. I'm willing to replace the mb completely. This mb has agp slot for graphics. Ofc the new mb would have to have a pci express 2. Probably a quad core. Nothing specific with ram. But I just need to know what direction should I go in reference to. What would fit!
No info was provided. We have no idea of what you have to work with. For example, if you bought an old DELL PC, there is nothing you can really do with it.
What is your budget? What is your goals? Gaming PC, basic work computer? Are you prepared to spend $100 for Windows? A PC made 5+ years ago has a PSU that won't work with modern systems, etc. Modern mobos tend to not have IDE connectors... so your drives becomes a problem. Perhaps look for someone on CriagsList selling something cheap?
I've dumped parts for almost free. $15 for a board, CPU and RAM, etc. There is GOOD old tech out there that are worth using, but aren't worth much money.
To etaf. It look grt and had something I wanted along with it. The power supply is 650. I think I'm good there. Compiler, It's a put together pc. Someone over clocked it and ruin it. I have a few hundred bucks I can spend. I'm looking to just replace the mb and processor. I have windows 7 home edition 64 bit. I also have ddr2 rams. So the mb must hold 8gigs of ddr2 or ddr3 and up. To go along with that I have a grt radeon graphics card already.
What kind of PSU? (brand. does it support 20 or 24pin motherboards) What kind of graphics card? (type? Is it PCIe?) The GeForce 4200 is a GREAT graphics card, but its 10 years old.
DDR2, used has no value in a NEW system. Sell them, re-use them. if you are buying NEW mobo/CPU - you'll need DDR3 - which is about $30 for 8GB. (When ViSTA {barf} was new - that was $400 back then)
For about $250~300, you can get an intel i5-2400~2500K CPU with 8GB of DDR3 and a Gigabyte Z68 motherboard.
For about $190~220, you can get an AMD 2/4 core CPU with 8GB of DDR3 and a Gigabyte 800 series motherboard.
The I have both psu 20 and 24 pin. I a (hd 6950 HIS 2gig) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161372 graphics card. But my main question are not the features. But the size to fit. Are Motherboards all the same size? Thank you everyone for replies. Very much appreciated.
If you want help, you really need to list your exact parts. Asking if a given mb is going to fit is somewhat analogous to asking "Will this water pump fit my Ford" we have no idea what parts you have currently.
If you have a standard atx type case, then you can generally install just about any atx standard mb however we need to know what case you have AND the exact pw supply you currently have installed. 650W means next to nothing. The quality of the unit is the most important issue. This is why we need to know the exact pw supply you intend to use.
I guess what I'm looking to do is get a decent semi, low-med end mb and processor (i3-or i5) to fit this case and build everything around it. I don't know if that make any sense or not.
You bought a computer just for the case? Is it a standard case? Since you can buy a good case for about $50, I hope you didn't spend more than that on a computer you intend to toss out.
So you want to build a computer completely from scratch? To do what? i3 and i5 are two different processors. What do you intend to use the computer for?
Ofc I did not. It came with a very nice external hdd that I wanted. I just didn't feel like adding additional information. All I wanna do is replace the mb and processor. I'll go with what ever. I can use a suggestion.
Unless you want to provide the info requested in post #8, there is really nothing we can do. At this point, we are throwing darts in the dark; might hit something and might not.
If you want to provide the info, we can help. If you do not want to provide the info, we cannot. It really is that simple.
A motherboard is a motherboard... we don't care much about what you have now since you are going to replace it.
We are asking what kind of case you have NOW. The brand and model number. If you don't know provide a photo.
What kind of PSU do you have, the brand and model number.
What budget are you wanting to spend? I gave you a ballpark of what to look for and to shop at newegg.com
The rest is up to you.
If you want to use any of the existing parts, you have to tell us their full make and model info. An external hard drive is irrelevant. If you want to use the existing graphics card, what is it? Existing hard drive? What connection does it have? Same for the optical drive.
You'll also need to buy a full Windows 7 license unless the computer you purchased came with a full retail license, not an OEM license which is tied to that motherboard.
You're looking at spending several hundred dollars at a minimum for a motherboard, CPU, and a Windows license.
Is this computer a pre-built system like an HP or Dell? If so, post the make and model of the computer. If it was built from parts, then it should be a standard mini or full tower that takes some type of ATX board.
Darn, I can't seem to be able to upload pictures. I don't know if it's my pc or the website. Getting errors (20120412_152430.jpg: Upload of file failed.) I'll try it in a different pc now.
We'll, I've tried uploading pictures in a different pc. It doesn't seems to be a pc issue. The website is not able to upload pictures. Unless I'm doing something wrong. It's how I've always upload pictures here. (Under advance reply, drop down scroll from little paper clip, browse, then upload 1 at a time.) Since I can copy and paste URL, can I copy and paste a URL of my pictures on my pc?
It doesn't make any sense why my cell phone is creating pictures this size.
