I was wondering if someone could take a look at this HijackThis log file from my sister's computer. She's been having several issues with slowness and freezing. I removed the CD-RW drive and it seemed to have completely resolved the worst of it, (I think the drive was bad or perhaps it just needs swapped)however, there are still some things in her startup that I need help with identifying. It may be virus related but wanted someone else to take a look. She's been getting a Malicious file alert for a "hlpctr.exe" file that I can't seem to find as well......

The drive could have bad, or the software was corrupted, or it could be a power issue. Anyways the point is don't blame the drive just yet.

I see some Adware/Spyware and maybe something that could be a virus.

Go here to do a virus scan: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/

And download, update, and run Adaware and Spybot. Fix all problems they find, then repost a new hijackThis log.

Sorry it took me so long.

I learned a lot from the website you provided with info. on Adaware and Spybot... Thanks!

I actually decided to re-build my sister's computer, so didn't need to investigate further.

Thanks for your help.
