I am working on a laptop with windows vista & have had to reformat the hard drive & reinstall everything.
I was using I sound pro – an audio recording program- without problems before the meltdown – it worked great.
After returning to factory settings none of the streaming audio programs will work right anymore & I’ve tried to install 7 different programs just to make sure.
The problem is that they are recording from microphone – so there is background noise.
All of the sudden – post meltdown – on the recoding options there are only 2 choices (microphone & mic array). Not sure what the option was before that was working correctly but I no longer have that option available. It use to work but I never had to look at why it did & what the recording option was.
I thought I might see a sound card in the options list but there is not anything like that.
What could be so different now that I have went back yto factory settings? What could I be missing & how can get it back?
    Kindest regards.

Maybe you did not yet download/install the latest chipset or sound drivers from you laptop manufacturer's web site? Are there any warnings or errors in Device Manager?

Is "HDX laptop" the HP Pavilion HDX, or didn't I search deep enough?
