help wid cdrom

    i had an asus 52-32-52 optical drive
    one fine day it went kaput....so i thought that maybe the drive had failed nd so i bought a new one abd connected.still did not work .so i changed the cable. still not working .

    please help me

    The first test of this drive should be in DOS mode. You will need a bootable CD. Any bootable CD will do. Be sure your BIOS is configured to boot from CD before HD. A Windows Installation CD of any version or any other bootable CD will do. Place the CD into the suspect drive and restart the computer. If it boots to the CD, your problem is a Windows configuration or corruption problem. If not, it is a hardware problem.

    You have to know this before going further.

    Look in Device Manager. If the CD drive is there with an error code, try this:

    Download CDgone, right click on the downloaded file and choose Extract All, then double]click on cdgone.reg
