Hi everyone,

I have a Compaq Presario 7 series running Win 98 SE. It's about 5 years old.

Since the other day, it will not boot. It freezes at the 'Compaq' welcome screen. This means it doesn't even get to boot disk execution so i can't do any diagnosis.

You should be aware that it's in my mother-in-law's room, and she and my wife moved it from one end of the room to the other just before this problem started.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Check everything plugged into your computer. You may want to unplug everything, then plug it in again. Sometimes if something is in the wrong plug or is not plugged in firmly the computer won't boot. (y)

Hi and welcome to TSG..
If the above dosen't work..
Tap f 8 at start up..choose..command prompt..type scanreg/restore
Choose date prior to problem..not the oldest..
Let us know if that works..

Thanks guys.

I checked the connections and they're all fine.

I tried the PF8 trick but that didn't work. I suspected it wouldn't since I have a boot disk in and it also doesn't get that far.

Do you think it's the motherboard? :(
