    Hi. I have a virus/malware problem and couldn't solve where it comes up. Two weeks ago an pop-up comes up and said my computer is not protected and needs to install Window 7 antivirus suite. It modifies the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/.exe of my registry and insert a C:\Users\YYY\AppData\Local\fga.exe into the default class. Since then I removed the program. Ran the Microsoft Security essential and removed bunch of virus. I also did a system restore since my registry was so mess up after removing the line in the .exe that nothing would come up. Today the virus pop up again. I had to redo another system restore after removing this time a C:\Users\YYY\AppData\Local\hul.exe file and the registry. I downloaded and ran hijackit and dds.com. Can someone help me to pinpoint on what to remove from the system? Thanks.

    I'm attaching the hijackthis.log and dds.txt.

    Thanks,
    Al

    Hi. MS Security Essential just found and remove the following:
    Exploit:Java/CVE-2011-3544.E
    file:C:\Users\XXX\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\26\12d3401a-16e8e815->Final.class

    I wonder if this is the lurker that the couple of us are seeing in the forum.

    I'm also running aswMBR as recommended by several admins from the forum. Waiting for results.

    Hi. Just thought I mention it right now. Microsoft Security Essential removed a couple other virus this weekend. (Not at the same time)
    1. TrojanClicker:ASX/Wimad.gen!
    2. Java/Blaclore.X
    3. Java/CVE-2011-3544.A
    4. Trojan:Win32/Sirefer.J
    5. VirTool:Win32/Obfuscator.UL

    Since then I reboot the machine, run in safe mode, and rerun Microsoft Security Essential, downloaded Advance SystemCare and cleaned out the registry, removed junk files, temp files, etc. I'll probably need to rerun hijackthis and dds again.

    In the meantime, I've disabled javascript and java for internet explorer and firefox.

    I'm going to reboot the machine and install and run malwarebytes to see if any other things comes up.
    It seem that this virus is pretty nasty since it keeps popping up even after I've removed it.

    The aswMBR log didn't show any infection. I'm guessing this virus is new?

    ===============
    Had the couple of virus removed. Interesting note is that there's a Trojan.FakeAlert which reside in the Java deployment cache... Remember that pesty update message that asks you to update your Java version...I think somehow some hacker figure out that's the exact good place to hide it since some people either always click "YES" to update. Or always click "NO" to never update....

    The D: Drive was my window xp dual boot that I rarely used. Must got infected in the olden days.

    I will proceed with Advance SystemCare deep clean to clean out the registry one more time in safe mode and then rerun malwarebytes again.

    I think it's solved. Just want to let people know the step I used to get rip of it.
    If it pops up again. Will let you know.

    1. Reboot machine. Use microsoft security essential.
    2. If the virus overwrote your .exe entry in your registry. Do a system restore.
    3. Reboot machine in safe mode. Use microsoft security essential to wipe virus.
    4. Download Advance System Care. Reboot and run Advance system care to clean registry in safe mode.
    5. Download malwarebytes. Reboot and run malwarebyte in safe mode to wipe virus again.
    6. Reboot and run Advance system care in safe mode to clean registry once again.
    7. Reboot and run malwarebytes to validate it is indeed clean.

    FYI. I do have McAfee that comes with Cox. It doesn't detect anything...
    And I don't like the fact that I need to have 3 virus scanner active right now...
