I've been getting a lot of popups lately and have run the usual scans. Here then is the H/T log. Would someone please have a look at it for me?

I don't know about these two entries:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [kverspmz] C:\WINDOWS\kverspmz.exe

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [AdwareSys] C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\EMesh.exe

Do you know what they're for? You could use HJT to fix them....close your browser, check the entries in HJT, click Fix and REBOOT.

    :)

The log looks good. If you haven't done so you need to delete these files in safe mode:

    The C:\WINDOWS\kverspmz.exe file
    The C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\EMesh.exe

How to start your computer in safe mode

I tried to delete in safe mode but could't find The C:\WINDOWS\kverspmz.exe file. Maybe you could go over how to search for files in safe mode? My machine is still acting strangely. Once when the machine was sleeping, I awoke it and clicked on the IE icon and got what I thought was another search engine. I believe now that it was another website that looked like a search engine. I got a message that was something like "Google could not be found. Here's Ooogie". this has happened a few times since but with a different web site as a result. I'm going to run another spybot and adaware scan and post a HJT log soon. thanks, Phil.

adaware could not delete these two entries; c:\windows\system 32\aymparse.cpy.dll and c:\program files\internet optimizer\optimize.exe. I rebooted into safe mode and used search from the start menu to locate the files. When I logged on as owner I found the files but was denied access. When I logged on as administrator I was told that the files were not found. I got a redirect ad when I made my first click after rebooting the second time. It's pretty benign but still drives me crazy. Spybot and adaware said the system was clear after the second reboot. Here's the HJT log.

I don't see anything in your log. Are you still getting popups?

I'm ok for now but I have this terrible feeling of doom. Really, I'm good, and you will hear from me if things change. You've been great flrman1. Thanks for your help.

I still get hijacked to another search but, it seems quite benign. When I first access IE, after a new boot-up, I am directed to my Google home page but, I am almost immediately sent to another search engine that I can easily exit. Of course I would like to get away from this hijack altogether. There are two files that continue to pop up after adaware and spybot scans. They are c:windows\system 32\aymparse.cpy.dll and c:\program files\internet optimizer\optimize.exe.
In safe mode I have found these two files and two look-alikes (aymparse.dll and optimizer.exe). I cannot, however, delete the two that I would like because I am denied access. I haven't tried to omit the look-alikes because I am afraid that they are what the baddies are trying to immitate. Any ideas?

The aymparse.cpy.dll and aymparse.dll are from the Look2Me parasite.

Click Here to download the OE2VX2BetterInternet.exe file.

1: Shut off all open programs including printer and anything in the System Tray (virus scan, popup blocker, etc.).
2: Doubleclick the OE2VX2BetterInternet.exe to launch the utility.
3: Click on “Find VX2.BetterInternet” button. The utility will display the bugs if they’re there and will enable the "Fix" button.
4: Click “Fix” and let it do it’s thing. It will shut your machine off then reappear. Repeat the Find VX2.BetterInternet and Fix a second time.
5: If the utility doesn’t reappear by itself, repeat steps 2,3 and 4. This time you will see “We are at step 2” notice above the screen.
6: It may take 2 or 3 cycles to fix everything.

After you've done that post a Hijack This log.
