Hi...
I have a Dell Latitude Laptop P-233. It does not have a OS on it yet and I want to hook up a external Floppy drive to the USB port so I can load my WIN-98 which only boots from the floppy due to its not a full version.
Question: because it does not have an OS on it yet, will it pick up that I have attached a new hard drive to the USB or do I need to do something in the BIOS setup to have it detect it etc....
thanks....

my thoughts are usb needs windows with the drivers installed, boot from the cd,it should ask you to insert your previous version to verify that you are entitled to the upgrade and once this is done it will install.
the only difference between an upgrade and full version is the upgrade will ask for verification

is that I want to use the USB because I want to install WIN98 that I have, but its not a full version and wont boot from the CD, and I have swapable drives. All other attempts to load the drivers for the CD have failed.
I have a WIN 2K that will boot from the CD, but I thought maybe WIN98 might work better with it.
Would win 2K work as well as WIN 98 on this Laptop? if so I will just install that and let it go...

i think the cpu is a bit light on for 2000 and probably your ram
have you got a friend with the 98 disk you can borrow and put your own key in.
but as i said i am not very knowledgable about lap tops you might want to wait till someone posts a reply that knows
