I was helping a friend with his laptop and the system would not scan viruses eventually it forund a worm tibick and he could not access anything all his files were backuped on another Harddrive so he decided to try and fix it is safe mode but safe mode would not work. So we went into msconfig and bootini and changed it to boot in safe mode. Now when he turns the computer on it just loops back to asking to log in under safe mode. He tried to reformat with the floppies he has. But when he gets to a certain point it shuts down the the laptop.

Anything to help would be beneficial

    thank you

See Clean Installing XP on the links below. He should be booting directly to the XPCD.

Preferably he should have his XP CD slipstreamed with SP2 if the CD does not already have it.

Rather than doing a clean install and removing a lot of your installed programs, configurations and possibly data, you might want to download a good Spyware and Trojan Removal program.

    Spybot Search and Destroy:

    SpySweeper:
    http://www.webroot.com/wb/products/spysweeper/index.php
This will also protect your home page from being hijacked.

    Ad-Aware:

With any of the above three programs, just like with Anti-Virus software, should have the latest updates installed before doing a scan.

    CWShredder:

    KazaaBeGone

Programs that can help prevent getting infected:

    Spyware Blaster

    Spyware Guard

Also, what was changed in the boot.ini file and why don't you just change it back again.
