I am on my iPhone because my xp is toast. No start taskbar at bottom of screen, can't connect to the Internet and can't do a restore either internally or from restore disks. Plus my pc won't recognize printers nor another USB device. Can't delete files nor do searches. Prior to this I downloaded 2 malware removal programs and both were mysteriously deleted! Help! I can't give you a hijack log cause well nothing is working!

Sounds like an infection causing the problem. What malware removal programs did you try?

I would suggest downloading Super Anti Spyware
    http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWAREFREE

    ....and Malwarebytes.

Install both, update both, and then use both programs to scan your computer while in SAFE MODE (use each program separately, but not simultaneously)

Delete any threat(s) found, then see if you are able to scan in regular mode with no problems. Post back with results. :)

To follow Tek Time's advice, press Control Shift and Escape to bring up the Task Manager, click on Processes then select New Task from the File menu and type in explorer.exe and hit Enter. That may bring the taskbar and desktop back to normality but if it doesn't, restart and tap Function 8 before Windows loads then select Safe Mode with Networking from the menu.

When the desktop is as yours is now, calling Task Manager as above is the only way to run a search or find files. When the box opens to enter a new task, click on Browse and you can go anywhere but you will need toexpand the search for Programmes only to All Files.

I will try safe mode again, but I was unable to do anything as my taskbar at the bottom was missing and my desktop was truncated. With the instructions you gave I hope to get control. Wish me luck
