AVG Forums seem to be at an impass with this one. One of the Forum Moderators "Big Al" with over 21,000 posts says its a big no no. I've had dealings with him over the years and if he says dont go there, thats good enough for me. Hope your not too cold over there. We've just been through bushfires and a cyclone here on the east coast of Oz. Thanks for your time. Before I mark this Solved, I want to run a full scan with Malware Bytes.

Ok! Neither AVG{Paid Version - which includes Root Kit} or Malware Bytes has picked up anything, so hopefully my computer is clean. May as well mark this one solved. Stay warm. Regards KO

Well, this is what Big Al posted... All Users

A similar situ occurred a while ago. For further info also have a look @ Weekly Overview: 04/2012.. Strange AVG file names. Subscribe to this RSS feed if you want to be notified about new Weekly Overviews.

I have read the weekly overview and this one was top of the list. When I Right Clicked on the Pop up that I have sent you the screenshot of, nothing happened. In other words, I couldnt get any properties. You've lost me here a bit. Is Big Al a moderator with TSG as well????

No, he's not a moderator here.

It's not the pop up that you right-click, it's the actual file.

Ok! I've found the AVG Secure Search file, right clicked on it and gone to properties. Now, how to disable it and wont that also disable my Link Scanner???

Cookiegal, if I disable Secure search, wont that make my computer more susceptable to attack?? 11pm in Quebec now. You've probably gone to bed. Its only 2pm here and I'm up til about 1.00am. Too hot to sleep.

When you right-click the file, click on the "Version" tab. It should say that the file belongs to AVG.

Yes, it will disable link scanner. That is why you have to decide if you want to use or keep it based on the information provided. If you wish to use it then you have to allow its updates when prompted and not block them. I understand that you didn't know what to do when you got the first alert because there was no indication what the file was related to. In the future, you can check the file's properties in another browser window and then decide if you want to allow it or not. :)
